ஊக்கம்: புதுச்சொல் புனைதல் குறித்த சில சிந்தனைகள்

Motivation என்ற ஆங்கிலச்சொல்லுக்கு நிகரான தமிழ்ச்சொல் எது?

செயலூக்கம், சிந்தையூக்கம் என்று புதிய முன்னடைகளிட்டு மொழிபெயர்க்கலாம் என்று முனைவர் குமாரவேல் கணேசன் என்பாரது முக நூல் பக்க உரையாடலில் இன்று பரிந்துரைக்கப்பட்டிருந்தது.

நான் இக்கருத்தில் இருந்து மாறுபடுகிறேன். மேற்சொன்ன உரையாடலில் பகிர்ந்தவற்றைக் கீழே தொகுத்திருக்கிறேன்:

Motive என்பது மூளை/ எண்ணம்/ சிந்தை சார்ந்தது செயல் என்பது வினை/ தசை / அசைவியக்கம் (locomotion) சார்ந்தது.

சிந்தையூக்கம் என்பதே motivation இன் etymological expression க்கான பொருத்தமான தமிழ்ச் சொல்லாக அமையும்.

motive என்பதன் வேர்ச்சொல் மூலம் motif (Old french), motivus (Latin), motus (Latin) முதலானவற்றில் இருந்து வருகின்றது. இவை அனைத்துக்கும் அடிப்படைப்பொருள் அசைவு – இயக்கம் என்பதே.

ஒருவரைச் செயலை நோக்கி உந்துவது என்ற பொருளை ஊக்குதல் என்ற சொல் போதுமான அளவு குறிக்கிறது. அதை மிகையாகத் திருத்திப் (hyper correction) பயன்படுத்துவது தமிழரே தமிழை வேற்றுமொழி போல உணருமாறு செய்துவிடும்.

தமிழ் நுட்பம் மிகுந்த மொழி. ஆங்கிலம் சார்ந்தே எப்போதும் சிந்திக்க வேண்டும் என்றில்லை. நல்ல சொற்கள் நம்மொழியில் உள்ளபோது அவற்றை அப்படியே பயன்படுத்துவோம். இடைவெளி ஏற்படும் இடங்களில் தமிழ் மரபுக்கு இசைவாகப் புதுச்சொல் புனையலாம்.

ஊக்கமது கைவிடேல் – ஔவை.

இதைவிடப் பெரிதாக என்ன ஊக்கும் உரை வேண்டும் ஒருவர்க்கு?

இங்குப் பெரும்பாலானோர் ஊக்கவுரை என்பதே மிகப்பொருத்தமான தேவையற்ற முன்னொட்டற்ற, சிறிய சொல் என்று பரிந்துரைத்துள்ளனர். நன்றி. ஆனால் செயலூக்கவுரை என்னும் சொல் அழகாக உள்ளது. மேலும் Mohamed Ali Yaseer Arafath பரிந்துரைத்த சிந்தையூக்கவுரை கூட பொருத்தமாகவேயுள்ளது.

Both ‘செயலூக்கவுரை’ and ‘சிந்தையூக்கவுரை’ are sesquipedalian – unnecessarily long and multisyllabic, potentially making it less accessible and harder to follow for the average listener or reader.

I now invite the learned individuals here to coin a Tamil word for ‘sesquipedalian.’ This would be a worthy endeavor and a significant contribution to the Tamil language, which is precisely the point I’ve been trying to make. 😃

‘செயலூக்கப் பேச்சாளர்’ resonates pleasingly due to its harmonious syllables, a beauty that can be explained through Tamil prosody:

‘செயலூக்க’ follows a ‘நிரை நேர் நேர்’ pattern, while ‘பேச்சாளர்’ employs a ‘நேர் நேர் நேர்’ pattern

இரண்டுமே நேர், நேர் என முடியும் மூவசை மாங்காய்ச்சீர்கள். பொருள்கோடலும் ஓசையும் பொருந்த வரும் சொற்களே சிறப்பானவை…

While admitting your concerns on simplification of a language ; I do advocate evolution, acclimatization and specialization are a mandatory requirement for survival of any language. Diversified highly descriptive sophisticated domains of vocabulary is a cardinal attribute of scientifically performing languages such as European and Oriental language whereas no sub continental linguogeographic subsets will never achieve these heights because of their crude nature of ethnocentric thinking patterns. It is our choice weather to remain crude or evolve through refining processes, not only in communication means but also how we incorporate contemporary knowledge base created across all sectors.

We must strike a balance between reverence for our linguistic heritage and the necessity of evolution. And perspectives should not lean too heavily on Western hegemonic theories, neglecting the depth found in indigenous grammatical traditions like தொல்காப்பியம் and its exploration of சொற்பிறப்பியல் (word genesis).

To assume that the linguistic traditions of the subcontinent cannot achieve similar levels of sophistication is a fallacy rooted in ethnocentric biases. The potential for linguistic evolution and refinement is not confined to any single tradition. The choice before us is not between crudeness and foreign refinement but about realizing the potential within our languages to evolve and incorporate contemporary knowledge while maintaining their unique identities. Thus, the conversation around linguistic evolution should be inclusive, valuing all traditions.
